Thrift Store Finds

Just wanted to share some of the loot

I scored at the by the pound thrift.

One of my weaknesses has to be vintage linens.

I found three vintage table cloths and a variety of other linens.  Everything needed a good cleaning once they arrived home.

I also found this sweet little pink doll dress.

I love the detail on these sweet embroidered pieces.

This apron was kinda fun so it came home with me as well.

Anyone care for a chocolate vanilla swirl?

Junk By The Pound

I am sure that most of you

are familiar with this store . . .

. . . . But have you ever been to one

that sells by the POUND?

I know  . . . right?  This place is crazy.  People are digging for treasure here. The energy is crazy in here too. People are throwing all kinds of stuff around searching for that bargain and they can be agressive.

The junkers line up on either side of the yellow lines and wait for new carts to be brought in filled to the brim with merchandise.

As the new carts come in, the old carts go out so there is constantly fresh junk coming in. Everything is mixed together in a huge jumble so you never know what you might find.

If you go to a place like this you have to be a digger and be willing to sift through lots of stuff.  I'll show you what I found

in a later post.

I got these little antique leather gloves

while thrifting the other day.

They are a little work of art down to the

little mother of pearl buttons.

They are actually doll sized and quite tiny.

Little Lighthouse

As promised

more pictures from Newport.

This is a darling little lighthouse

called the

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse.  

Isn't she pretty?

 Built in 1871 but was only used until 1874 when a larger lighthouse

(Yaquina Head Lighthouse) was built

north of this little lighthouse

barely a stone's throw away.

A lovely view of the bay bridge

can be seen at the base of the lighthouse.

Wait until you see in the inside

of this little lighthouse. 

It really is charming and is decorated

in the style of the period.

I loved looking at all the antiques.

While charming, I still appreciate

modern plumbing (check out that chamber pot)

and modern conveniences such as electricity.

It is supposed to be haunted

but I didn't notice any ghosts.

Fishing for Boats

I was here

on this cold and rainy

Oregon day.

I saw lots of fishing boats.

Some of these boats were decorated

 because it was

a very special day.

Once a year there is a day set aside

for what is called

"The Blessing of the Fleet".

It is a day set aside to honor

those who have died

or were lost at sea,

to ask for protection

while fishing out on the

unpredictable and sometimes

dangerous ocean.

To give thanks

for all that is harvested

from the sea

and to ask

for continued good fishing.

We were treated

to a parade of boats

in the bay.

We feasted on a lunch of

fresh clam chowder and

sour dough bread.

I'll show you where else we went soon.

While I wait for the flowers to wake up from their long winter's nap

and showcase their delicate beauty,

I shall have to be content with one of my latest thrifted treasures.

One of my favorite flowers are roses.

This extra large sugar bowl is blooming right down to her delicate rose budded lid.

I come across many lovely blogs who openly spread the love of Christ and are never afraid to ask for prayer or would be the first ones to offer prayer to anyone, even for those they may have never met.  These individuals wear their hearts on their sleeve and inspire and encourage others. You never know how your words may bless someone or how an act of compassion can give hope. You never know how your actions can positively affect someone, or how a hug or a smile may touch someone deeply. You may never know how your encouragement to others can change lives. You may never know how an act of random kindness may make a huge impact on someone's life, or how your prayer can make a difference.  These simple acts of love

DO make a difference my dear friends and they never go unnoticed.

It's a challenge.  Really something we should incorporate into our daily lives anyway.  It's about doing something good for someone else.  Not to be repaid.  Not to receive anything back.  Not to receive attention or credit.

 Unselfish love, simple as that.
